HAZELWOOD INQUIRY OPENS DOORS AND CALLS FOR SUBMISSIONS

Today the Hazelwood Mine Fire Inquiry opened its doors in Morwell.

The Board of Inquiry, led by Justice Bernard Teague and supported by Professor John Catford and Ms Sonia Petering, is strongly encouraging impacted Morwell and Latrobe Valley residents to discuss their concerns and provide input into the Inquiry.

‘From 31 March 2014 to 12 May 2014 we are asking the public to make submissions that address any aspect of our terms of reference’ said Justice Teague.

The Inquiry’s terms of reference include investigating the circumstances of the Hazelwood Mine fire, including the emergency response and the support provided to Morwell residents and other affected communities.

‘Input from the community, particularly those who have been directly affected, is essential so that we can work out what needs to be done to ensure issues like this do not arise again.

Written submissions are the principal way in which individuals and organisations can contribute to the Inquiry, but it is not the only way people can provide input and have their say.

‘In addition to written submissions, there will be a program of community consultations during the month of April that will be open to all members of the public. Details will be advertised and posted to the Inquiry’s dedicated website as soon as they become available’.

Submissions can be lodged online at www.hazelwoodinquiry.vic.gov.au or via post. All postal submissions must have a cover sheet, which is available on the Hazelwood Mine Fire Inquiry website together with other important information for those who intend to make a submission. Those without access to this site can contact the Inquiry office on 1300 442 972 for assistance.

Please mail submissions, with a cover sheet to:
